What’s the point of looking good if you can’t enjoy your favorite activities? We are excited to share that, yes, you can swim with Hairlaya hair extensions. After all, our extensions are made from real hair, which means you can treat it like your own. However, there are a few tips to keep in mind to maximize the health of your hair and the extensions.

Swimming with hair extensions

These guidelines will help you get the most out of this summer, whether in the pool or out in the sea. Now you can swim with complete peace of mind knowing you are doing what’s best for your hair. It’s also important to note that it’s not just swimming that you need to watch out for, but skin and hair products as well. These go hand in hand with summer and can pose problems of their own.

What Extensions Can I Swim With?

We cannot give an answer for all extensions as many use synthetic hair or non-cuticle hair. We can confidently tell you that you can swim with Hairlaya extensions. This is because we only use the highest-grade human cuticle hair.

You can swim with both our tape-in and hand-tied extensions; however, the tape-ins require more maintenance and can possibly come loose from swimming. If you frequently swim, hand-tieds are the better option.

Prepare Your Hair To Protect Your Hair

Hair preparation plays a key role in protecting your hair while swimming. One of the best and easiest things you can do is to wet your hair and apply a conditioner to serve as a barrier. This will help protect your hair from harsh chemicals and the ocean. Conditioner will also minimize absorption from sunscreen and lotion that could potentially damage your hair. Conditioner should be applied roughly 2 inches or 5 cm away from extension attachments.

Putting your hair up in a braid or a clip can also help protect your hair. You want to minimize contact and absorption as much as possible when out in the water. Once you have prepared your hair, you are ready to hop in and enjoy the water!

Protect Your Hair While Swimming

We like simple, easy, and hassle-free solutions whenever possible. A swim or shower cap is a great, affordable and convenient way to protect your hair for regular swimming use. Before putting on the cap, braid your hair, wet and condition it as specified above. These work in unison to protect your hair and minimize absorption.

For maximum protection, you want to keep your head and hair above the water whenever possible. However, we understand sometimes you want to get in carefree and enjoy yourself, and it is certainly fine with our hair extensions.

Hair Maintenance After Swimming

Once you finish swimming, you should brush your hair and then apply shampoo and conditioner as soon as possible. A cleansing shampoo will help remove dead skin cells, dirt, body oil, debris from the pool or ocean, and more. Conditioner will help further protect the extensions so you can swim in them again and again. Be sure to check out our blog for more healthy hair tips!

Protect Your Hair From The Environment

It’s not just the pool you must take precautions for, but the beach, the wind, the sun, etc. Wearing a sun hat or bandana is a great way to protect your strands and scalp from the elements. Wearing this simple protection will help prevent the sun from drying out your hair and extensions so they can maintain their natural, beautiful shine. Hats and bandanas will also serve as a barrier against sand and dirt, preventing them from disrupting the attachment points. When you are no longer out and about, you should gently wash and brush your hair, ensuring it is free of debris.

Enjoy Your Summer. Enjoy Your Hair

We believe in helping people live their best life which means enjoying beautiful, full hair and their favorite activities. Long gone are the days of missing out because you have extensions. Now you can swim with ease and confidence, knowing your hair will be fine. Just like your regular hair, with routine maintenance and everyday care, your extensions will maintain excellent form for years.
