Strengthen your natural hair before the install

Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. Product buildup, dandruff and other scalp issues can weaken the rest of your hair if left untreated. Using a gentle, sulfate free shampoo will detox your scalp without stripping. Also consider adding apple cider vinegar to your sulfate free shampoo for an extra detox!

Products that are useful with hand-tied extensions

If you’re not already using a deep conditioning hair mask, this is the time to start. Using a deep treatment once a week will give your hair the silky texture that it deserves. Heavy oils and silicones are not recommended due to slipping of the beads that are used to install your hand-tied extensions. Here are a few masks that our hair experts at Hairlaya recommend: the Olaplex No. 3 Hair Perfector, the Briogeo Don't Despair, Repair! Mask, and the Living Proof Restore Repair Hair Mask.

Prevent damage to your hand-tied extensions

If you like to curl or straighten your hair, letting your hair air-dry instead of blow-drying gives it a much needed break. If you’re going to use heat on your hair, make sure you use a protectant beforehand. Minimizing heat damage is key.

Compliment your hair-care routine

Taking supplements, such as the ever-popular Sugar Bear Hair can give you the necessary vitamins to strengthen your natural hair. Sleeping with a silk pillowcase, to prevent tangles is also a really valuable resource.
